Angie has been married for 20 years with three children, ten grandchildren with one on the way. For 17 years, she was blessed to provide childcare care for many of the PRP firefighters while raising her kids. On August 1st, she started a full-time job outside the home with DXP on Dixie. For the past several years, she has been attending college with plans to graduate from WKU in December 2023.
On September 8th, the whirlwind of a nightmare began that changed her life overnight. Her husband noticed a small knot on my neck, but by September 9th, the knot had almost tripled overnight. The mass was even more significant by the following Monday. After multiple doctor appointments, results showed Follicular Lymphoma, a Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Once she met with the Oncologist, the mass was so big it was pushing her thyroid and esophagus over, affecting her breathing. The Oncologist followed up with additional tests stating her Lymphoma was not acting like Follicular since it was multiplying. After the different tests, she received the news that her cancer was at stage 3. It's confirmed she has several huge masses in her neck, kidneys, and chest, encasing the esophagus and aorta, to name a few. They immediately admitted her into the hospital to complete further tests. The Oncologist completed an abdominal biopsy and confirmed it still showed Follicular Lymphoma. The cancer was starting to transform into Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is very aggressive, but that follicular still outnumbered the B Cell Lymphoma. Angie immediately started a super aggressive chemo regimen. The family has begun to receive denied medical claims refusing to pay for some of the tests, procedures, and chemo meds.
While everyone at DXP is wonderful and supportive of her needing time off, she, unfortunately, does not get paid. Her husband also has a supportive boss that allows him to take off to care for her, but he also has to go without pay.
