Let's wrap our arms around them in this tough time
On April 11, 2019, our good friend, Karl Mingus, was hospitalized suffering from a lung infection resulting in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
He was intubated and on a ventilator for 8 days. Due to his critical state, he was transferred by ambulance to a second hospital that could provide specific treatment and skilled care.
His serious and rapid decline required that he was placed in a medically induced coma and in a paralytic state. Sometime during the first days of hospitalization, he suffered a heart attack and a severe stroke. He had a cardiac cath where a stent was placed and is on the road to recovery in terms of his heart. He stayed in the Medical ICU, the Surgery/Transplant ICU and the Neuro ICU.
Once awake, it was observed that the stroke left him suffering from right side paralysis and is currently nonverbal.
We believe he is capable of making a substantial recovery, but he will need extensive therapy and around the clock care for an unforeseen amount of time.
Karl will eventually be transferred into an inpatient rehab facility and cannot transfer home or to another place without extensive 24 hour care.
Many community members have asked how they can help. Theresa is very grateful for the outpouring show of support! Not knowing of the many hurdles that Karl will be facing in the future; the family would be very appreciative of donations to offset medical costs and living expenses. All money raised through this campaign will be given directly to Theresa to help continue Karl’s recovery and pay for the abundance of medical bills that will begin to pour in. We appreciate any support you can provide, as well as your thoughts and well wishes to Karl.
